  • 6 Obtain Coaching for Iowa K-12 Schools (244)
    Please note: CPR training is now required for Coaching Endorsements, Coaching Authorizations & Renewals.
    --To be a licensed coach (even volunteer) for any Iowa School, the coach needs one of the license types listed on the next page. Once licensed, the license type and expiration for all coaches is public record available at our site under Search for a License
    --DO NOT APPLY FOR THE WRONG LICENSE TYPE- fees are non-refundable.
    --We can’t issue a license to a person who already has one and we can't renew a license for someone who doesn’t.
    --Applications and renewals are processed in the order received. If we can issue a temporary coaching permit, we will do so. When/if that happens, the applicant will be notified via e-mail. We no longer expedite applications at admin/AD request. To monitor the progress of your application, keep checking the web site noted above. Allow 6-8 weeks to process new and renewal applications.

  • 6a Renew, Convert or Extend an Existing Credential (244)
    Check your expiration date! BoEE administrative rule 282-20.3(6) states that a license may only be renewed less than one year before it expires. If we receive the application too early, the application will not be processed and the fee will not be refunded. 282—20.3 (272) Renewal of licenses. 20.3(6) Timely renewal. A license may only be renewed less than one year before it expires.

    Be sure you know what licenses you already have -- check under "Search for a license" to the left if you are unsure. If you already held a license of the type you are applying for - even if expired, you should not use these and should renew instead.
